Brief Description and Cost

Athabasca University – Canada’s Open University – was founded 1970 and awarded international recognition in the U.S. (2005) and Europe (DOATAP 6/2009). One of the top Open Universities in the world, it currently serves more than 37,000 students in 87 countries.

Athabasca University in collaboration with the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Institute of Technology is pleased to offer the post-graduate program, Master of Education (M. Ed.) in Distance Education, to residents of Greece and other Eastern European countries. The program is provided completely online so students can study wherever they live and work.

The M. Ed. in Distance Education Program is recognized by DOATAP – Hellenic NARIC (Protocol Number 16201/2009 & 6986/2009) and therefore accredited throughout the European Union. It is aimed at practitioners and teachers in various disciplines who are interested in the use of new educational technologies, online course development and implementation, and the design of distance education and training programs.

 

 


Cost / Duration

Athabasca University has adapted the M.Ed. (Distance Education) program to suit the socio-economic status of Greece and surrounding Eastern European countries (Rumania, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Albania, Italy, and Bulgaria). To provide post-graduate education to the widest possible groups of learners, the tuition fees for the M. Ed. program have been adjusted in such a way that it can be afforded at a cost of 100 euro per month!

The duration of the program is two years (minimum) to three years (maximum) depending on the time availability of the student.

The total cost of the program is about 3,375 EUR or $5,000 CAD Canadian Dollars (depending on the current exchange rate, 1 CAD = 0.674870 EUR), payable as follows:

100 euro ($ 150 CAD) application fee (non-refundable)

1,250 euro ($ 1,850 CAD) (upon acceptance into the program)

1,350 euro ($ 2,000 CAD) (the first year of study)

675 euro ($ 1,000 CAD) (the second year of study)

The cost of the program does not include text books. Although most courses use free open-access learning materials, some require the purchase of text books. The price of commercial books can range from 15 to 85 Euro. Books can be purchased from online sources such as Amazon or Google Books..
